Who is The Oakville Edge?
The Oakville Edge is the Synchronized Skating program within the
Oakville Skating Club.
Our season starts in April with various on-ice
Open Houses geared towards
matching new members with the appropriate team within our
organization.
After the upcoming season's teams are formed, weekly practices
are held in May and June for stroking and to develop Synchro Skills.
After Labour Day, choreography camp is held. This
is a weekend event, combining on-ice and off-ice sessions with the
purpose of building the team and developing the upcoming season's
program.
Regular practices start in October which combine off-ice program
run-throughs and fitness with on-ice skill building and program
development.
The competition season is kicked-off with the annual photo day
and Gala. The
Gala is an exciting event, that includes all Oakville
Edge teams exhibiting their programs with various guest teams
skating as well.
Competitions occur between December and March with the season
wrapping up just before March Break.
History
The synchronized skating program at the Oakville Skating Club
started in 1983 as
Oakville
Canadiana Twirls. Then known as Precision
Skating, the Synchro program provided an enriching and successful team
environment for many skaters. By 1990, the name was changed to Ice Expression,
which
fielded teams from "4 Star" up to Junior and competed successfully
at the National Level.
In 2006, the Oakville Ice Expression name was changed to Oakville
Edge. Since then, the Synchronized Skating program has grown to
include teams from Intro level up to Novice.
