Intro-to-Synchro
This program is designed for skaters who have achieved CanSkate level
3 as
well as skaters who are new to Synchronized Skating and are under 9
years of age. The objective of the Intro category is to begin along
the path of learning the basic formations of Synchronized skating,
to learn how to work as a team and to have fun in a team sport
environment! Skaters in this program must be registered in a
CanSkate session via the Oakville Skating Club.
Beginner I
This is a new category for Oakville Edge for 2010-11 and is designed for skaters
who have completed CanSkate level 5 and are under 10 years of
age. The objective of the Beginner I category is to introduce and
develop the fundamentals of Synchronized skating and the idea of
team work. The focus is to continue developing basic forward
and backward skating skills through the discipline of synchronized
skating. Skaters are introduced to the idea of team work by
participating in a fun team sport at this level. This team will
attend 1 "fun" competition during the season. Skaters in this
program must be registered in a CanSkate or StarSkate session via
the Oakville Skating Club.
Beginner II
This category is designed for skaters
who have completed all CanSkate levels and are skating 1 - 2
times/week in a StarSkate sessoin. The majority of the team
(75%) is to be comprised of skaters under the age of 10 (as of July
1, 2010) and the remainder (25%) can be up to, but not 12 years of
age as of July 1, 2010. The objective of the Beginner II category is to

team work. These skaters will also begin to experience competitions
as well as focusing on the "learning to train" attributes of the
Skate Canada Long Term Athlete Development program.

Preliminary tests. The majority of the team (75%) is to be comprised of skaters
under 12 (as of July 1, 2010) and the remainder (25%) can be up to,
but not 15 years of age. The objective of the Elementary category
is to continue to develop the fundamentals of Synchronized skating,
while enhancing their core skating skills such as edges, turns and
quality of stroking. These skaters will also continue to learn how
to train while experiencing competitions.
Juvenile
This team is designed for skaters who are working on the Junior
or Senior Bronze test levels. All
skaters must be under 15 as of July 1, 2010. The objective of
the Juvenile category is to build on the basic fundamental skills
acquired in Elementary and Beginner by layering more complex skills
and elements.
Novice

Bronze or Junior Silver tests. Seventy five per cent of the team members must be between 10
and 14 years of age and the remaining 25% must be under 19 years of
age. The objective of the Novice category is to add an increased
focus on the ability to perform skills in a competition setting.
